Donna Karan kept things sultry with a modern, very New York collection for Pre-Fall.

Karan played with two key themes this season: a sexy, slick black leather take on military chic, and an experiment with fabrics and cuts.

The tailored army coats came in neoprene bonded jersey, and the material also arrived in a series of dresses and separates. There were also a plethora of round retro-military buttons (a theme seen in a number of collections this season) which were in mixed metals, like the studs and other embellishments that cropped up all over the pieces. Her silk shirts were split open, and combined with slick tailoring (including generous culotte pants) and satin peep-toe platforms.

Further highlights included kimono-style tops tucked into high-waisted skirts, while a crisp and crinkled bomber jacket and a check jacquard added more texture to the mix, as did the semi-sheer silk of the skirts.
