Modtissimo brings the textile industry to Porto

Published
Feb 18, 2020

The oldest textile trade fair on the Iberian Peninsula is preparing to celebrate its 55th edition in Portugal. From 19 to 20 February, Modtissimo returns to Porto's Francsisco Sá Carneiro Airport, which has hosted the event's February edition since 2016, as the show takes a break from its principal address, the Porto Customshouse Congress Centre.

The 55th edition of Modtissimo runs from 19 to 20 February at Porto's Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, which has hosted the event's first edition of the year since 2016

Fully booked for a number of weeks now, the event's organisers expect to see 6,400 buyers, 400 of whom are international, at the trade show's first edition of the year, which will shine a spotlight on the latest innovations to come out of Portugal's fashion, apparel and textile industry.

Working under the motto "Feel," the 55th edition of Modtissimo "promises to strengthen the position of Portugal as a world-class producer of raw materials, apparel and fashion, which is able to respond to the needs of consumers – like a second skin – while also respecting the environment, reducing waste and reinventing fabrics, materialising a truly circular economy," explains the Associação Selectiva Moda in a press release. The show's attendees can therefore expect to to find several Portuguese companies proposing green solutions at the event.

Over the trade fair's two days, textile industry professionals will be able to discover a sector committed to "reinforcing the image of quality and innovation through the presentation of new materials, designs and trends, all of which are increasingly guided by the principles of responsable and sustainable development," explain the event's organisers. This February's Modtissimo will therefore be a clear continuation of the show's most recent editions, during which sustainability has established itself as a watchword.

A wide range of companies will be present at Modtissimo, from fabric and accessories manufacturers to producers of adult and children's apparel, operating as either own-name brands or private labels. Among the companies making adult clothing, attendees will be able to discover the offerings of businesses such as Concreto, Dielmar, Marita Moreno and Katty Wiomara, while childrenswear producers including Dr Kid, Baby Gi and FS Baby will also be presenting their latest goods. Moving into the textiles and accessories section, buyers will find companies like Eurobotónia, LMA, Tintext Textiles and Riopele Têxteis.

As in previous editions, the iTechStyle Showcase hosted in collaboration with CITEVE will demonstrate innovations in textiles, products, business and accessories, as well as some of the projects developed as part of TextBoost, a textile industry project based around collective R&D, which involves companies from the textile and apparel sectors, as well as from other complementary industries.

With its return to Porto Airport, Modissimo also brings a new area with it – the Fashion Forum – which brings together the Fabric Trend Forum, The Childrenswear Forum and a "lifestyle powered" area by Antarte.

In an edition in which Modtissimo's organisers say they are preparing "to send yet another strong message about the vitality and dynamism of the Portuguese textile and apparel industry," it remains to be seen whether the numbers achieved in February 2019 will indeed be topped. This time last year, the trade show attracted 6 million professionals, as well as 20% more foreign buyers as compared to the prior year's event.
