Newbie latest collection uses 'rescued' fabrics

As part of its growing commitment to sustainability, Kappahl-owned baby and kidswear brand Newbie has launched Rescued, an all-new collection created from left-over fabrics from previous collections.

As part of its wider ‘Loved Again’ recycled fashion initiative for the Swedish fashion group, the new collection is initially being launched online before rolling out to its UK Newbie stores.

As they are made exclusively from leftover fabrics, pieces in the collection will only be available in limited quantities while some of the styles are not available in every size “as each item is unique”, it noted.

“We have a few metres more fabric than needed when making garments to allow for a bit of margin. This means there is usually some left over,” explains Anne-Charlotte Lindquist, Brand & Assortment Manager at Newbie, as the reasoning behind the venture. 

“We are now rescuing the left-over Newbie fabrics and turning them into new garments, ready to be loved again. After trailing Rescued fabrics products in 2021, Lindquist said the that “now is the time for a major launch of Rescued fabrics garments and of our new collection Loved Again.”

Maja Olsbo, Creative Designer at Newbie, added: “We hope this collection will encourage our customers to take a more sustainable and respectful approach to clothes and inspire them to make their clothing last longer with beautiful patchwork, mending and embroidery.

“The idea is that Newbie will be rescuing fabrics from now on into the future. The collections will be released as and when fabrics become available.”
