Outdoor retailer Blacks to open biggest UK store
JD Sports-owned outdoor retailer Blacks is set to launch on The Moor in Sheffield its largest UK shop, opening to the public on 8 June.
Located in the city centre’s retail quarter, the store will occupy a space of 16,000 square feet and create more than 15 new jobs, reported The Star on Monday.
It will join a portfolio of more than 70 Blacks stores nationwide, including locations in London, York, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow, Leicester and Nottingham. The brand has also an existing store in Sheffield at Meadowhall shopping centre.
“We’re delighted to be opening Blacks’ largest UK store at The Moor, which is right in the heart of Sheffield’s city centre,” said Lee Bagnall, CEO of JD Sports Outdoor Division.
"The work that has been done to revitalise the city centre is really outstanding and we are really excited to welcome customers to what will be a very special, state of the art, store, in which they will be able to use all of the very latest technology in outdoor wear and equipment to give them a truly interactive experience, through our Wearables Technology Centre and our ‘Lift and Learn’ footwear technology, as well as our huge indoor tent display area showcasing our outstanding range of tents and well-known brands such as North Face and Berghaus.”
The redeveloped Moor area is also home to favourite high street brands including Primark, Dorothy Perkins, Debenhams, Miss Selfridge and Oasis. Owned by Aberdeen Asset Management, the shopping quarter has seen footfall increase by 21.2% year-on-year.
“The development has reached a stage where there is something for everyone on The Moor providing more reasons to visit this part of the city. It has become a real city centre destination for shopping, entertainment, food and leisure,” said Phil Huby, head of retail asset management.
More names are expected to join The Moor as the next phase of development gets underway.
