Paris haute couture: Elie Top launches luxe jewelry label

It was  a busy week for the Lanvin-trained designer who unveiled his eponymous fantasy fine jewelry line on Tuesday. His celestially-inspired collection features exclusive cocktail rings and pendants set with rotating stones.

The launch party for the aptly named "Mécaniques Célestes" collection attracted a stellar guest list including designers Alber Elbaz, Haider Ackermann, as well as Emmanuelle Alt, Inès de la Fressange and actress Catherine Deneuve.

It is no wonder that the stars came out for Elie Top -- each one of the 20 or so statement pieces is a decorative work of art with the focus on innovative design rather than the value of the precious and semi-precious stones and gun-metal tinged silver and gold settings, which include diamonds.

This debut collection of galatical pieces featuring moving parts is underpinned with references to flying saucers, the planet pluto and spacesuits.

The jewelry designer makes a connection between his use of the curious chrysoprase gemstone and the words of French poet Paul Verlaine: "It's the blue disorder of bright stars."

Available at Paris concept store Colette, Elie Top's luxe jewels are priced from $2,700 to $47,500.
