Parking charge reduction pays off for Eagle Meadows fashion stores

Footfall to shopping centres in Britain may have fallen last year, and especially over the Christmas period, but one centre in North Wales managed to boost its visitor traffic last year by cutting car parking charges.

Eagle Meadows cut parking charges and footfall rose

Eagles Meadow reduced car parking charges by more than half a year ago and saw a 7% footfall increase in 2016 as a result. As many as 3.5m people visited the mid-sized mall over the 12-month period.

And going against the national trend of lower Christmas footfall, visitor numbers rose 17% year-on-year in recent weeks, majority owner Wrexham Country Borough Council said.

The centre, which is located near central Wrexham, hosts 63 stores including Debenhams, Clarks, Burton, H&M, Next, M&S, River Island and Topshop. It had significantly boosted staffing levels this Christmas ahead of the expected rush and jeweller Pandora, which opened at the mall last year, said it had to operate a queueing system at certain busy times.
