Producing lab-grown diamonds is not an exact science. They are created using machines that replicate and accelerate the conditions in which natural diamonds are formed, and they can be far from flawless when they are made. Despite this risk, after working for many years in traditional luxury houses, Manuel Mallen decided to co-found jewellery brand Courbet with Marie-Ann Wachtmeister.

Luxurynsight X FashionNetwork · Episode 45: Manuel Mallen talks to Olivier Guyot about “The value of lab-grown diamonds” FR

The founders' challenge was to set up a jewellery brand specialising in synthetic diamonds and recycled gold, and basing it in Paris in Place Vendôme, home to all of the world’s top jewellery names.

In this LuxurynsightXFashionnetwork French-language podcast, Mallen talks with Olivier Guyot about the entrepreneurial journey that led to the founding of Courbet, about the challenges he faces, and shares his enthusiasm for the potential unlocked by high-tech ethical jewellery.

Mallen also discusses the projects he, and several leading investors, have their eyes on, from creating the largest lab-grown diamond ever to the possibility of producing diamonds in France in the near future.
