In-store cafes are increasingly popular at all levels of the fashion market and the latest is at the very highest end with Prada having opened the Prada Caffè inside Harrods in London.

Although it’s a pop-up, it’s a long-term one. It debuted on Friday and will be open until 7 January next year.

It’s a reflection of the trend to immerse shoppers in an entire brand universe and experience rather than just focusing on fashion or beauty products.

The company said it’s “a space designed to add a new dimension to the brand and offer customers a unique and engaging experience”.

The design is distinctively Prada down to the distinctive black and white chequerboard floor that replicates the design in Prada’s own stores. And the company said that other aspects like the tableware and the menu reflect the brand’s language, approach and distinctive way of viewing the world”.

Inside, the walls, ceilings and velvet-upholstered sofas and armchairs are coloured with the brand’s signature green, while the floral bas-reliefs on the walls evoke some of Prada’s flagship stores across the world.

The tableware “is original and exclusive, selected by Prada to match the surroundings and ranging from pale-blue Japanese porcelain with a contrasting double black line, inspired by ancient Celadon pottery – tea and coffee cups with lids, teapots, plates and trays – to blown-glass crystal glassware, including the Triangle series with its quintessentially Prada triangular pattern”.

The food and drink on offer covers the entire day, from breakfast to evening cocktails, and provides a subtle, modern take on Italian tradition, with sandwiches and risotto sitting alongside buffalo mozzarella and salmon and crab dishes”. Pastries also “play a central role”. There are signature cocktails too and a wine list that “spans the whole of Italy, with bottles from Sicily to Piedmont”.

The Prada Caffè is open for 12 hours a day (six hours on Sunday) with an entrance on Hans Road. It will soon be joined by an outdoor stall offering a range of ice creams.
