Prada has debuted a new retail design concept across two of its points of sale. Called ‘modular design’, the innovative layout hosts interchangeable features: when new products from the Italian luxury brand are introduced, the setting receives a new, original look each time.

Inside the new 'modular design' retail concept in Harrods - Prada

Prada's concession in London’s iconic department store, Harrods, is the first to undergo the retail revamp. Covering an area of 140 square metres, the shop-in-shop features wall decorations and plush, colourful furnishings, as well as Romanticist graphic artworks by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, an 18th-century Italian etcher.

There is also a Prada-edition of Osvaldo Borsani’s velvet chairs and a geometric patterned-carpet in shades of strawberry pink. A selection of special products for women – luxury accessories, costume jewllery and leather goods including the Cahier bag – are displayed on coloured velvet trays arranged in elegant glass-and-steel counters

"The renown Prada Cahier bag - inspired by a diary - is made of precious skins such as crocodile, ostrich, lizard and python in many different tones," said the Italian maison, said in a press release. "It features details that recall ancient books like the bronze metal hardware as well as a brand new buckle. It is also available in two smaller versions in bright colour combinations."

Meanwhile, in Monte Carlo, the 170-square-metre Prada store offers women’s clothing, leather goods, accessories and footwear collections. Here, again, the walls feature artworks of a selection of Giovanni Battista Piranesi’s etchings, while Osvaldo Borsani’s velvet chairs are in pink, as is the classic chequered carpet. In the entrance area, a large video-wall screens content relating to the current collections and the special projects connected with them.
