The Première Vision Paris trade show welcomed 56,154 visitors from September 17 to 19. It was an edition centred on the issues of sustainability and innovation, and it was boosted by an intense conference programme.

The majority of the show’s visitors, 74%, came from outside France, hailing from 136 different countries. After France, Italy was the second most represented nation, on par with last year at 8% of the total, just ahead of the UK contingent, diminished no doubt by the Brexit effect. Behind the UK there was Spain, with 5% of visitors, Germany (4%) and Belgium. The organisers remarked on the notable influx of visitors from northern Europe, and on the fact that Turkey ranked eighth in terms of visitor share with 3%. Asian visitors made up 12% of the total, led by China with a 5% share, Japan and South Korea. The share of North American visitors was stable at 5%.

Altogether, the total number of visitors decreased by 1.89%. According to show organiser Première Vision SA, “this was due to a variety of factors: chiefly, a troubled economic outlook (owing to Brexit uncertainty and weaker fashion consumption) and a very busy calendar, as the show was held between the London and Milan Fashion Weeks.” In addition, from September 2018 the major Shanghai textile trade shows have brought their dates forward, further clogging up the calendar.

Alongside the Trend Forum, which offered an immersive virtual reality experience on the Fall/Winter 2020-21 season, this edition’s pulsating heart was the 1,200 m2 Smart Creation section. The latter, located next door to PV Leather, showcased 50 exhibitors focusing on sustainable textiles, leather goods and services, and was constantly brimming with visitors, its conference area always full to overflowing.

“We recorded an increase in attendance both at the auditorium within Hall 6 and at the open amphitheatre of the Smart Creation section, demonstrating a greater than ever need for insight, notably on issues regarding sustainability,” PV Paris director Gilles Lasbordes told FashionNetwork.com.

“[Sustainability] is an increasingly important issue, even more so than we imagined, as shown by the survey we carried out with IFM [the French Fashion Institute]. Something is truly happening within the industry, and it’s more than a passing phenomenon. We are well aware that we will need to provide further insight into this field in the forthcoming editions,” he added.

The next edition of Première Vision Paris is scheduled on February 11-13 2020, in parallel with the second edition of Première Vision Sport, which will be held in Portland, Oregon, on February 12-13. Before then, Première Vision SA will stage Denim PV in London on December 3-4, and Blossom PV in Paris on December 11-12.
