Two popular TV shows from Netflix are having a major impact on fashion at the moment with searches for certain items surging on the back of the latest season of The Crown and The Queen’s Gambit.

That’s according to fashion, beauty and design search platform Stylight, which said that Beth from The Queen’s Gambit hasn’t only driven sales of chess sets higher. The show’s costume design, “inspired by 60s icons like Ann Margaret, Natalie Wood and Audrey Hepburn, has also made its mark on our users"..

The series started on October 23 and the number of clicks on Stylight for checked coats has exploded, with an increase of 383.39% compared to the month before its release. While that might be partly connected to cooler weather, the size of the surge suggests that the programme is also making an impact.

Beth also wears a white coat in the final scene of the season and ‘white wool coat’ clicks have risen 131%, while turtleneck sweaters are up almost 57%.

Meanwhile, the preppy ‘Lady Di’ look “is having a comeback”, we’re told.

The Crown Season 4 started on November 15 and within a week of the show’s release, Stylight saw an an increase in clicks for some of Diana Spencer’s staple fashion items.

Clicks on pussybow blouses like the one she chose to wear for her public engagement announcement rose 108%. And collared dresses (which she famously wore for the royal tour of Australia) saw searches up over 50%. There was also a 162% rise in pearl earrings searches, while her pink gingham pants, worn in the show while rollerskating in Kensington Palace, drove ‘pink gingham’ searches up 35% within a week.
