Dallas, TX-based Rebel Athletic has launched Fit Freedom, a body scanning app that uses augmented reality to help make online clothing shopping easier.

The app uses a smartphone camera to take a full length body scan. It then derives measurements that are accurate within a half inch window that are used to achieve custom fit clothing.

Karen Noseff Aldridge, founder and president of Rebel Athletic, said in a release, “We are on the cusp of a future where any smartphone will scan a person’s body and convert that scan into accurate measurements to determine the person’s sizes, including length adjustments, across multiple product lines.”

Aldridge noted that the app will help solve the fit issue that retailers commonly face in the age of e-commerce, namely reducing returns and increasing customer satisfaction. She added that the technology uses algorithms and data that “measure more accurately than a real-life tailor.”

The app will focus on measurements such as hip to leg width ratios and shoulder to wrist length.

From a technological standpoint, the app integrates with Salesforce and CRM platforms that can be used by sales reps for individual and team business orders. Currently the app is being used by Rebel Athletic’s in-house sales team to assist sales for custom-fit performance athletic uniforms as well as lifestyle apparel.

The Fit Freedom app now is available for both iOS and Android.
