There is a change at the very top for Safilo: the world's number two eyewear group has appointed Eugenio Razelli as President. An engineer by training, Razelli is taking over from Robert Polet, who stepped down "for personal reasons, while staying on as member of the company's board of directors," said Safilo in a press release.

The former Gucci Group CEO took charge of Safilo in 2011, two years after the company was recapitalised by its new majority shareholder, the Dutch investment fund Hal Holding. At the time, Safilo generated a quarter of its sales through the licences it held for Kering group brands like Gucci and Bottega Veneta. This is now no longer the case, after the French luxury group decided to start running its eyewear business independently in 2014.

Eugenio Razelli, 66, has had a completely different career from Polet. He is a member of Safilo's board of directors since 2010, and has specialised in developing businesses with a technology dimension. Between 2005 and 2015 he was the CEO of Italian automotive component group Magneti Marelli, having previously worked for other companies belonging to the FIAT group, and for Pirelli.
