Scanpay: a new way to make transactions on your mobile

Sven Lung, founder of e-commerce site BrandAlley, has presented a new way to process payments on mobile devices, simply by taking a picture of your card. This new payment method could help increase the number of mobile users that use their device to purchase online.

“At BrandAlley, 80% of online baskets on mobile phones are abandoned due to the difficult payment process,” explains Sven Lung. “Clients are out and about, on the metro, distracted or simply just do not have the time. The objective is to revolutionize the way people pay via their phones and to help m-commerce stores attract new customers. It’s a world-wide first and we hope it will quickly be adopted by m-store owners and customers alike.”

The software was developed in the Epitech labs thanks to the financial support from top French business school, Essec. Payment platform Playbox has already integrated the payment process and will be soon be offering the Scanpay option to its 30,000 clients. The system takes half an hour to download to mobiles devices and installation is free. The founders will earn commission on each transaction made.

Certains mobiles apps, both on the App Store and on Google Play, have already started to use the Scanpay payment method. Moto-taxi app Hicab employs the system in its app, as does Bazarchic, whose president Liberty Verny will be taking part in the Scanpay launch.

Scanpay plans to be integrated into more than 10,000 apps from now to 2014. Aside from the attention it receives from mobile development agencies, the payment system has seen interest from Israli, Russian, Brazilian and South African groups.
