Via social media, in particular through its Instagram account, which brings together nearly 23 million people, Sephora has announced that it has suspended its activities in Russia.

The beauty retailer said that all of its Russian boutiques, as well as the sephora.ru retail site, will close within the next 24 hours.

“Given our increasing concerns about the current context and the complexity to operate, we will suspend our activity in Russia until further notice," said the brand, which operates 2,600 stores in 35 countries, in a story published on its French and international accounts.

The announcement comes as on Friday, March 4, a spokesman for the luxury group LVMH, owner of Sephora, announced the temporary closure of its stores in Russia as of March 6.

Earlier in the week, LVMH said it had mobilized a first emergency donation of €5 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to help the direct and indirect victims of the conflict in Ukraine.
