Emilie Benoit-Vernay, who took charge of Shopify’s French business in 2019, has been named head of southern Europe expansion for the Canadian e-tail solution provider, and will be responsible for Shopify's commercial growth on the French, Italian and Spanish markets.

Benoit-Vernay joined Shopify, a CMS platform that makes it possible to easily set up and manage e-commerce operations, in 2018. She worked formerly as strategic business development manager at The Other Store agency, following stints at TranslateMedia and Ubiqus.

She was appointed country lead France for Shopify in September 2019, just before scores of brick-and-mortar retailers began to digitalise at breakneck speed due to the pandemic. Last May, Benoit-Vernay told FashionNetwork.com there had been a 60% increase in the number of newly created e-shops in France after the pandemic's first year.

Benoit-Vernay's promotion follows the achievement of a major milestone for Shopify, which topped for the first time the one billion dollars quarterly revenue mark, generating $1.38 billion (€1.24 billion) in the quarter ending in December 2021, a 41% rise. In fiscal 2021, Shopify recorded a total revenue of $4.61 billion (€4.15 billion), equivalent to a 57% increase. In 2021, the Canadian group’s adjusted net income rose from $491.3 million to $814.4 million.
