The buying group, which is number two in Europe, saw its turnover increase last year by 5% to over 6.2 billion euros. Over the course of the year, its network grew by 49 locations, now totaling 3,728 stores in 23 countries.

To further its development, Sport 2000 has based its strategy on a multi-category specialization with running, cycling, fitness, football and outdoor as its fortes. It has also partnered with international companies such as Adidas, Amer Sports, Asics, Nike and Puma.

Its recent general assembly, meanwhile, served as an opportunity to name Harold Rubrech the new head of the company. He succeeds Wolfgang Schnellbügel, who has served as CEO since 2006.

The Dutch executive comes from Intersport Germany, where he oversaw marketing and multichannel. From 1994 to 1997 he worked at... Sport 2000. As for the supervisory board, Holger Schwarting has been elected for the fourth time as its head. France is represented by Yannick Morat, who served from 2011 to early this year as president of Sport 2000 France.
