Stella McCartney and Taylor Swift to launch line for star's new album

The links between pop music and fashion are deep and long-standing and they’re going to get deeper if Taylor Swift and Stella McCartney have anything to do with it. The two mega-names are teaming up for a clothing line linked to the release of Swift’s latest album, Lover.

The launch of Taylor Swift's new album, Lover, will also see a Stella McCartney collab

The star revealed the news on social media (of course) via an Instagram Live video, confirming the widely-predicted name of her seventh studio album and adding: “Another thing I wanted to tell you... for the release of the Lover album, there's going to be a collaboration that I've done with Stella McCartney.”

The album will be out on August 23 and we assume the collection will launch with a similar timeline, although few details are available so far.

Swift also said of McCartney: “She's been a friend for a really long time and also just a woman that I respect so much. I respect what she creates, how she creates it. There's so much whimsy and imagination and romance to the clothing that she designs. I've worn a lot of her stuff recently, and she's heard the new album, and this new collaboration is inspired by the album.”

Swift hasn’t been a big patron of McCartney’s label on the red carpet but was photographed in McCartney at the BAFTAs after-party back in February.

The collab won’t be the only products linked to the Lover album with a number of more traditional album merchandise pieces having already been unveiled. But the assumption for the Swift-McCartney offer is that it will have a more luxury fashion edge.

And we also have to assume that the whole experience of working with one of the biggest stars on the planet won’t faze the designer - when your dad was one of the Beatles, you tend to take things like that in your stride.
