The platform is designed to “help remove listing barriers for innovators in the market, and promote diversity within the industry” and the company is continuing its call for “innovative brands to get in touch to be at the forefront of the Marketplace launch”.

The platform launches in September and will mix premium, more affordable and start-up brands with the company saying it will be integrated seamlessly into he existing Superdrug webstore.

Brands signed up so far include Wonderskin, Truthbrush and OPV Beauty.

The company said the new venture “will bring undiscovered, innovative, affordable products to UK consumers for the first time, with a focus on growing trends like homegrown, female-founded, sustainable and inclusive new brands”.

The launch reflects a general trend among big-name retailers in areas such as beauty, health, fashion and homewares to enter the marketplace space as they work to stay competitive, and build their businesses while targeting consumers who now have a whole world of products to choose from. Superdrug’s focus on newer brands, and especially on those that are sustainable and inclusive, is particularly interesting, as is its open call for brands that might want to sign up.
