Swatch prepares for a collaboration with Uma Wang

Following its work with Jeremy Scott, Manish Arora and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Swatch has chosen an even bigger name for its next international collaboration. Thus, in March the Swiss brand will come out with three watches created by Chinese designer Uma Wang. More discerning consumers will recognize her as one of the rising stars of the Shanghai fashion scene.

As for the Swatch brand, this collaboration is not the first time it works with Uma Wang. The brand had in fact sponsored one of Wang’s fashion shows last year, which led to this collaboration.

The thirty-year old designer launched her eponymous label 5 years ago upon finishing fashion school in China. She has held shows in her hometown of Shanghai and, for the past two seasons, she has also shown her collections during fashion week in Paris and Milan. The ageless universe of Uma Wang, inhabited by rugged materials through which her deconstructed silhouettes come alive, conveys a simple poetry that is both down-to-earth and ethereal. Her name has begun to create buzz around the fashion world, especially since being named by Italian Vogue as one of the up-and-coming talents of 2010.
