Thai garment manufacturers and exporters received tips from Korean business executives and fashion industry experts at a workshop organised recently by the Asean-Korea Centre in Bangkok. The topics covered included strategies to better promote brands and products, capitalising from m-commerce, enhancing marketing, latest fashion trends and prospects in Asia.

The workshop titled ‘Enhancing Global Competitiveness of Fashion Industry - Brand Management Strategies for SMEs’, was aimed at enhancing brand management capacities of the Thai companies in the fashion sector. The objective was also to provide opportunities for Thai manufacturers and exporters to gain access to the Korean and global markets and build network with Korean experts.

“I believe that Thailand has great prospects to be the fashion hub in Asia by developing its own brands,” ASEAN-Korea Centre secretary general Kim Young-sun said. “I hope this workshop will serve as a stepping stone for SMEs in the fashion industry of Thailand to further strengthen competitiveness, particularly in terms of branding, marketing and e-commerce strategies, thus gaining more access to the Korean market.”

The workshop was attended by representatives of Thai SMEs specialised in making garments.

In recent years, Thai apparel exports have declined due to rise in minimum wage and a shortage of workers.
