On April 3rd, The New York Times launched its debut Men’s Style Section. The launch marks the first time in 10 years that the paper launched a new section.
The monthly section piloted by editor Jim Windolf and “styles” editor Stuart Emmrich will be dedicated to men’s style and will include content that would have been in the paper’s recently closed “Home” section. The debut issue includes a cover story on spring suiting, plus travel, tech and grooming features.
“The men’s market is very hot right now,” said Brendan Monaghan, NYT’s vice-president of luxury advertising. “Last year, we saw a 30 percent increase in men’s related ads in the newspaper, T, and digital combined. The demand for this is huge.”
The NY Times had originally planned to do a 12-14 page section but expanded it to 32 pages following an overwhelming interest from advertisers.
