The buzz is growing around Raf Simons at Pitti Uomo

Raf Simons. The name is on everyone's lips in Florence, from the swarming aisles at Pitti Uomo to the most select dinners in the city. The departing creative director at Christian Dior (he is under contract with the Parisian House until the end of July) is creating a nearly hysteric level of interest around himself.

The guest of honour at the fashion trade show is indeed the big star of this 90th edition of the leading trade show for menswear.

The Belgian designer, who took part in Pitti Uomo in 2003 and in 2005, as well as in 2010 with the Jil Sander runway show, at the time its creative director, has returned to Florence this year for the 4th time and will have the honour of closing the show with a major event at the Stazione Leopolda.

According to our sources, Raf Simons won't be putting on a simple show for his spring/summer 2017 menswear collection, which thus won't show at Paris Fashion Week this season, but has planned on holding a vast retrospective of his work with more than 150 models dispersed around the huge halls of the oldest train station in Florence, around which the runway show will take place.

For this reason the designer would have preferred to limit the number of guests on the guest list but the buzz surrounding the show has resulted in the number of requests for press passes skyrocketing, not to mention the requests for interviews.

Raf Simons has never been so sought after, with an exponential number of requests. In the style of the biggest stars, the designer has decided not to grant any interviews, with a few very rare exceptions.

In the meantime, the rumours regarding his next destination continue unabated. Is he heading to the United States to oversee Calvin Klein's men's and women's collections, as per the ever persistent rumour? In Florence, not everyone is convinced…
