Tiffany & Co. names design director

Jeweller Tiffany & Co. has recruited Francesca Amifitheartrof as head of design to oversee the design of all Tiffany product categories. Japan-born Brit Amfitheatrof had previously worked for prestigious brands such as Chanel, Fendi and Marni and her expertise ranges surpasses jewellery to cover silverware, bags and shoes. She also has experience acting as an art consultant and curator.

Educated at three prestigious London schools (Central Saint Martins, the Royal College of Art and Chelsea Art School), Francesca Amfitheatrof officially took over as head of design at the jeweller on September 10, replacing John Loring who previously held the position for thirty years. Loring retired in 2009.

Tiffany & Co., whose items are available globally viathe company’s impressive e-commerce site, will be opening a flagship on the Champs-Elysées in Paris in 2014. In 2011, the Qataris entered Tiffany’s capital via investment fund Qatar Holding, and became the company’s biggest shareholder with a 5.19% stake. Since then the fund has raised its stake to 7.8%.
