Topshop is to enter the bridal segment this spring with a debut to include a capsule collection of wedding and bridesmaid dresses plus accessories and lingerie, the Arcadia-owned chain confirmed to Fashion Network on Friday.

The trend-led retailer will launch the collection in April but a company spokeswoman told us that no other details are available yet.

The move comes as other high street rivals also move into the bridal sector, offering an affordable, on-trend alternative to the traditional bridal sector.

Last year H&M added a trio of bridal dresses to its sustainable Conscious Collection. And mid-priced chain Whistles will be launching its collection of seven wedding dresses next month with retail prices ranging from £499 to £699.

Topshop has shown itself to be adept at expanding into specialist areas with previous extensions to its offer including high-profile celebrity/designer collaborations, maternity, petite and tall collections plus its higher-end Boutique and Unique lines. It has also made a major assault on the athleisure sector via its parent company’s collaboration with Beyoncé for the Ivy Park collection.
