The co-founder of independent retailer-focused online marketplace Trouva has stepped down from the chief executive’s role. Mandeep Singh has been replaced by co-founder Alex Loizou, who has until now been CTO and chief product officer.

But Loizou had been taking on more leadership responsibilities in recent months with this week seeing him confirmed in the top job.

Singh remains on the board but won’t be involved in the day-to-day running of the seven-year-old firm.

In an announcement on LinkedIn, he said: “Alex has been part of the journey from day one, and after our stellar 2019, and $22 million fundraising in November, I can't think of anyone better to take the company I love to the next stage. In these times when independent stores across Europe have had to close their doors, I couldn't be prouder of the work the team is doing to keep independents across Europe trading and thriving online.”

Trouva was founded originally under the name StreetHub with a mission to help independent retailers get online exposure and it has almost a thousand of them listed on its site at present. With its operations now international, it has proved key for many smaller retailers in past two months as physical shops closed and most retail activity has happened online.
