Ugg Australia is now officially a retailer in France since Friday. The brand owned by the American Deckers Outdoor group has opened its first French store at 26 rue Vieille du Temple in the Marais neighborhood in Paris.

While the brand just opened a pop-up store at the Crèmerie de Paris which will be open until the end of January, this new 140-square-meter permanent location should position Ugg to establish its visibility in France.

Ugg Australia is using its new Paris digs — a space done up in light-colored woods and red brick — to show off its entire range. The store carries more than just the classic sheepskin boots for women, also offering shoes for men, women and children as well as jackets and accessories.

The first French store is not a one-time event. Dean Ventour, the brand's European retail director, is currently in France to look at opportunities for Ugg. "We have not signed anything yet. But we are aiming for a dozen stores in Paris and major French cities by 2014," he said.

The brand wants to build a network of stores in France before planning its growth in the Italian and German markets.
