Sportswear giants Under Armour and Asics are set to launch standalone stores in Argentina, according to sources.

Under Armour Oficial

Local newspaper Clarin reported that US brand Under Armour is planning to expand in the country with a number of standalone stores, replicating a strategy already tested in neighbouring countries Chile and Brazil. Until 2016, the brand was managed and distributed in Argentina by Grupo Vieytes, which has revealed Under Armour’s ambitions to sponsor a local football team like River Plate FC or Boca Juniors.

As for Asics, the Japanese footwear and sportswear label has decided to launch directly-owned stores in Argentina, announced Guillermo Gotelli, CEO of GGM which represented the brand in the country until December 2016, to the local newspaper. “They decided to launch their own operations,” said the executive.

The brands are currently sold in Argentina in select retailers including Dexter, Falabella, Solo Deportes and Netshoes, to name a few.
