Uniqlo closes London flagship for refurbishment, expansion

Casual fashion retailer Uniqlo has closed down its London Global flagship store at 311 Oxford Street for renovation. The store first opened in November 2007 and offered the largest Uniqlo sales floor space in the world back then.

The store's closure is in response to customer demand, and when it reopens in autumn it will have a new layout and 5 floors instead of three. The company says it will also feature "high-tech installations and innovative design."

"We thank our customers for their support over the years, which has enabled us to refurbish and expand our London Global Flagship Store," said Berndt Hauptkorn, Fast Retailing Group Officer and UNIQLO Europe CEO. "We are excited to offer our customers a better retail experience, in a larger and more comfortable environment and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our new store later in the year. At the same time, we apologize for the inconvenience that the temporary closing of the store may cause," added Berndt Hauptkorn.

Uniqlo moved its head office to Number 1, Kingsway, London, to make space for the new sales floors in the flagship store.
