Fast Retailing’s Uniqlo is planning to open a first store in Luxembourg, located in the heart of the city on Grand-Rue, this autumn.

The Japanese clothing retailer said it will “mark the next phase of the company's expansion across Benelux” as the Uniqlo Grand-Rue will become its sixth store in the region.

The large store will cover around 950 sq m over three floors, including the basement. There are few details at present but the company said more information around the opening will be announced at a later date.

Fast retailing has been aggressively opening new large-scale stores globally for its star Uniqlo brand in recent periods. And some of them have included combo stores that position the Theory label side by side with Uniqlo.

It opened its first of these on London’s Regent Street last year and another is due to open in Covent Garden on 27 April.

Europe in general is key for Uniqlo at present. Only last week, Fast Retailing reported its latest results and said that Uniqlo International reported a significant increase in both revenue and profit with revenue rising 27.3% to ¥755.2 billion and operating profit expanding 22.2% to ¥122.6 billion.

Its Europe ops (excluding Russia) started “to enter a genuine growth phase”.
