Fast Retailing’s Uniqlo will open an upgraded and expanded Uniqlo Tokyo on June 19 in the key Ginza shopping district. The company has renovated its store on the seventh floor of Marronnier Gate Ginza 2 building. After eight years, it has been expanded to the first through fourth floors of the building, with the interior fully remodelled.

The store has always been the global flagship for the brand and the newly remodelled location will continue to fulfil that function with even greater visibility. The company clearly hopes the renewed location will be able to represent the brand globally even better than it did before. And retail stores certainly need to pull out all the stops at present to encourage consumers back through their doors after a huge shock to global retail that many commentators have said has changed the sector forever.

The company said that the remodelled shop was created “to embody the LifeWear ideal,” referencing its LifeWear offer.

Based on the concept of "All of LifeWear Is Here," the store revamp was developed by Kashiwa Sato as Total Creative Director, along with Herzog & de Meuron, the Swiss architectural firm that has received the Pritzker Prize, as well as Japan's Praemium Imperiale.

The revamp also comes as the Ginza and Yurakucho districts are undergoing redevelopment, and Fast Retailing said “the opening of a location in this prime area is an important and major part of the Uniqlo store development strategy. The company considers this to be a key store that will change the flow of customers in Ginza, conveying to visitors the latest LifeWear, and allowing them to experience the world's finest products and services”.
