Vuarnet has launched a new eyewear collection designed by happening French creator Marine Serre, with its inspiration coming from cult action flick Mad Max.

The partnership marries one of France’s most authentic eyewear brands with a fashion-forward designer known for her environmental commitment.

Inspired by the desire to blend past style with present-day technology, the glasses balance chic and refined design, with a certain retro flare. Entitled Vuarnet x Marine Serre, the collection marks a significant product diversification by Serre, the 2017 LVMH Prize Winner, and the only French winner so far in the eight years of that competition.

The oval, retro '70s models feature a thoughtful new addition, a crescent moon dangling in a circle on the side of each frame, a design which Serre discovered in the Vuarnet archive.

Equipped with Lynx technology, trademarked by Vuarnet, the glasses, available in three colorways, offer the optimal level of protection from UV and infrared rays. In addition, they boast bi-gradient lenses. For the uninitiated, that means the glasses do the squinting for you. For those wishing to block out blue light from screens, yellow-tinted glasses are available, offering 100% protection which can be worn at night or during the day.

Vuarnet has been a pioneer in sustainability since the company was born back in 1957. Named after the Los Angeles gold-winning downhill champion Jean Vuarnet, the marque boasts natural designs that are 100% recyclable, a quality not frequently seen in eyewear. Which dovetails with Serre, a leader in the market of using old, end-of-life clothes to create new products.

The collection is available now through both brands’ websites, Vuarnet shops, and select retailers.
