Oct 29, 2013
Australian shopping center group Westfield has outlined plans to open a mall in the West Concourse of the World Trade Center. Due to open in 2015, the center will become a dynamic retail hub with three floors of shopping and leisure activities, all connected to New York’s public transport network.
According to Greg Miles, chief operating officer of the Westfield Group, the project is the largest commercial real estate project in the U.S, with total surface measuring 40,000m². Details of leasing deals with retailers will be revealed closer to the opening.
Rumours have been flying that brands Louis Vuitton and Zadig & Voltaire have already signed leases. Miles insists the centre will house a ‘really diverse range of high-street and luxury brands.’
Prior to the 9/11 attacks, Westfield - which operates premium shopping centers across the world – had a leasing agreement for the complex from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and managed the then Mall at the World Trade Center.
