The company said a recent survey showed every second Zalando customer in Sweden and Denmark would consider buying pre-owned fashion within the next six months.

And it said Zircle “will support Zalando’s target of extending the life of 50 million fashion items by 2023 by enabling customers to give them a new life quickly and effortlessly”.

It means more than 100,000 fashion items from well-known brands are now available to all of its customers in the two markets in the Nordics.

Mareike Hummel, Director UX Recommerce at Zalando, said: “Over the past two years since launching Zircle and expanding across Europe, we have gathered many learnings that helped improve the customer experience when shopping on Zircle.”

It sells items that were all previously owned by Zalando customers in markets where a trade-in function is available. The pieces are all assessed in a two-step quality check that involves the customer’s own photos and a check by Zalando itself.

“Zircle will support our target of extending the life of 50 million fashion items by 2023 by enabling our customers to give them a new life quickly and effortlessly,” said Laura Coppen, Head of Circularity at Zalando.

The company originally launched the pre-owned offer in Germany in 2019 and it’s now available in Spain, Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Poland too.
