The black and white pictures of the most iconic faces in fashion, from Kate Moss to Linda Evangelista, Amber Valletta, Helena Christensen and Lynne Koester, are the stars of the latest collection by Zara. A project born “in friendship and admiration,” through which the Inditex group’s leading label is celebrating the signature images lensed by renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh, who died in Paris at the end of 2019.

The project, called ‘Tribute’, is the brainchild of Lindbergh’s personal friend Fabien Baron, the art director in charge of several Zara advertising campaigns, and of the revamping and updating of the label's logo. ‘Tribute’ is a limited-edition collection of sweatshirts and t-shirts featuring some of the most memorable pictures shot in the 1990s by Lindbergh, who was also close to Marta Ortega, daughter of Inditex founder Amancio Ortega and in charge of the design department at Zara.

The garments will go on sale on July 15. They are priced at €29.95 and will be packaged in a customised recyclable box. According to Zara, the proceeds from the collection's sales will be entirely donated to the Franca Fund, an organisation that was created in memory of the iconic editorial director of Vogue Italia, Franca Sozzani, and that funds genome sequencing research.

“Peter and Franca, each in their own way, were true legends in the industry, and were behind some of the most iconic fashion pictures of the last few decades,” said Baron at the collection’s launch. He added that “it is an honour for me that this project may perhaps help [Lindbergh’s] work reach a new audience, and also help promote some of the social changes Franca was especially passionate about.”

In Q1 2021, the Inditex group, owner of Zara and Zara Home, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Pull&Bear and Uterqüe, recorded a 50% rise in revenue, up to €4.942 billion.
