Benetton's board of directors has a new member in James McArthur, a senior executive with a wealth of experience in retail and luxury goods. The Italian fashion group stated in a press release that McArthur "will contribute to the board his experience of many years in the fashion, retail and luxury goods industries." The appointment follows Alessandro Benetton’s exit from the group’s board at the end of 2016.

James McArthur was the General Manager of London department store Harrods, a post he left in 2009. He also was Executive Vice-President at Gucci, General Manager at Balenciaga and was for some time in charge of Yves Saint Laurent.

He also worked at Anya Hindmarch and was involved in the launch and development of fashion labels such as Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen. More recently, he was appointed to the board of directors at Russian children's retailer Detsky Mir.

Benetton, currently led by CEO Marco Airoldi and President Francesco Gori, is going through a relaunch phase, refocusing on its two leading labels, United Colors of Benetton and Sisley. In the last year the group was active in several projects, without truly managing to regain its momentum.
