Diesel Black Gold has promoted Andreas Melbostad to the role of creative director, charging him with the mission of coordinating a global image for the brand. As well as womenswear, the Norwegian designer will look after menswear at the brand, with his first collection to debut in January for the autumn-winter 2014 season.

The young designer was recruited by Renzo Rosso in October 2012 to oversee design at Diesel Black Gold womenswear following the departure of Sophia Kokosalaki. “Since joining the company, Andreas has been praised for his sophisticated style and cosmopolitan aestethic, both of which support the brand’s contemporary premium DNA,” said the label.

Before joining Diesel Black Gold, the Royal College of Art graduate sharpened his skills at Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Nina Ricci and also worked with Alber Elbaz for Guy Laroche and Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. The designer was also creative director at label Phi between 2003 and 2009 before it went bankrupt during the financial crisis.
