Dolce & Gabbana reinvented in the spirit of haute couture

Far from the clamor of Paris’ Haute Couture Week, Dolce & Gabbana is presenting its couture line in Italy in a very exclusive and very lavish context recalling the golden age of haute couture. In the coming days, the duo plans to unveil its fifth womenswear collection, entitled “Alta Moda”, and its second for men, “Alta Sartoria”. They will be presented in Milan in two locations: via della Spiga for womenswear and in a 19th century palace in Corso Venezia.

“In winter, we present these collections in Milan, while in summer we choose other locations that reflect the beauty of Italy. More than anything, this project is Italian, showcasing the expertise and tradition of our craftspeople,” said Domenico Dolce. Alta Moda project was launched in July 2012 in Taormina, with Sicily always having served as source of inspiration for the brand’s designers. The following summer, Venice was chosen, followed by Capri.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have hosted a lavish party weekend at each of these emblematic Italian locations, with special events reserved for a very select clientele of wealthy Americans, Russians, Asians, Arabs and Europeans, as well as a handful of fashion journalists and a few celebrities. The setting is always both jovial and ultra-exclusive.

“We are presenting 80 absolutely unique models—no copies of each having been made. At the end of the show, they are all sold, clients filling their orders directly during the show,” said Dolce. Dresses made of dreams are sold for around 30,000 euros.

Last summer, the brand launched its couture for men, which it had been developing for two years, but its true debut will be made with the second collection, to be presented in the coming days in Milan. The collection “Alta Sartoria” is for young and stylish men who are connoisseurs of refined elegance and discreet luxury. Through their high fashion project for women, designers have rediscovered a world that seemed to have disappeared. In addition to the fashion show, the house is also making a dozen tailors available.
