Fred Segal opens first store in Tokyo

Apr 20, 2015

On April 17th, Fred Segal opened the doors to its first Tokyo store in Daikanyama, the first store from the L.A.-based retailer to open outside of the United States. The retail location occupies three of the five buildings at Log Road Daikanyama, a new pedestrian shopping development.

"Tokyo is the ideal city for us to launch our first international flagship and Fred Segal Daikanyama will be a great addition to our existing U.S. locations," said Paul Blum, CEO of Fred Segal. "Our curators have put together an exciting mix of food and fashion, and we’re thrilled that customers half a world away will now get to experience their own authentic version of Fred Segal."

Fred Segal Daikanyama carries a curated mix of luxury menswear, womenswear, accessories, home and lifestyle products, as well as Fred Segal branded merchandise.
The three buildings, Fred Segal Woman, Fred Segal Man, and The Mart at Fred Segal, collectively display the L.A. retailer’s unique point of view. The Woman and Man stores carry apparel and accessories from brands such as Lanvin, Isabel Marant, Haider Ackermann and Adidas, and The Mart carries culinary products from all over the world including Fred Segal branded coffee made in partnership with Camden’s Blue Star Donuts from Portland, Oregon. A red vintage food truck will be permanently fixed outside of The Mart and sell a rotation of seasonal delicacies.

Each stores’ interior was designed by New York-based design firm Aesthetic Movement (A/M) and was treated like its own distinct project. The firm, led by Creative Director Jesse James, set out to create a unique environment that offers customers many different moments to experience every time they visit the store.
The Daikanyama location will feature exclusive collaborations across all product categories with Delphine Delafon handbags, Instant Impossible Lab cameras, Joshua Sanders shoes, Moleskine notebooks, Oliver Peoples glasses and TOMS shoes.
Fred Segal will continue its expansion in Japan by opening more retail locations including one in Yokohama’s lifestyle center in 2016.
