Hanesbrands grew by 12% in its first quarter

Hanesbrands, which acquired Maidenform Brands last October, recorded a 12% increase in turnover in its first quarter ending in late March. The American parent company of Wonderbra, Hanes and Champion earned 767 million euros (1.06 billion US dollars) over the period.

Operating income reached 83 million euros, up 34%. The group highlights solid performance by its Activewear segment, especially by Champion and its retail business.

Internationally, the Group recorded a 9% increase in sales to 80 million euros and more than tripled its operating profit to 6 million euros.
Its highest-earning segment remains Innerwear, which grew by almost 15% to 413 million euros. Activewear, up 10.2%, accounted for 213 million, while Direct-to-consumer represented 61 million.

The Group has improved its forecasts for its 2014 fiscal year, aiming for sales approaching 3.7 billion euros and an operating profit of 496 million.
