Ikea, the Swedish interior design giant and the world's largest furniture retailer, is flexing its design muscles with two new collaborations.

The retailer has teamed up with contemporary Danish design brand Hay and British design veteran Tom Dixon on two collections launching next year. Hay has something of a history of Swedish design collaborations, having previously created pieces together with Swedish fashion brand Cos.

For Ikea, Hay is designing a collection for socializing in the living room, that consists of furniture, lighting, accessories and textile designs. “I was so enthusiastic about this cooperation with IKEA. This cooperation is with one of the best supply chains in the world, with some of the best product developers and engineers in the industry. I knew that we could learn from IKEA, and hopefully they could also learn from us", says Rolf Hay, co-founder of HAY. The collection launches in 2017, but Ikea didn't reveal exactly when.

Ikea's Tom Dixon collaboration looks to redefine what comfortable seating means for the modern home. "We can see big changes in how the space in our homes is becoming more fluid and we are exploring what this means for both the design and production of furniture", says Marcus Engman, Design Manager at IKEA. Dixon is known for his award-winning designs - he is perhaps the best-known British designer working in the interior design industry today - but he is also an expert in production and manufacturing.

"We are in the midst of a huge revolution in how people create, manufacture and consume – the furniture business has been slow to respond to the opportunities, but now is an amazing time to experiment in new ways of working. In this case in a fresh collaboration directly with the consumer, industry and global experts", says Tom Dixon.

His collaboration with Ikea will be unveiled in August 2017.
