The name Loro Piana is usually associated with the bespoke tailoring world. But the Italian fabric manufacturer, a specialist in luxury materials, has also become part of the world of sporting sophistication. After being the apparel partner of the Italian show-jumping team at the World Equestrian Games 2014, and designing a line for vintage motor sports, Loro Piana has now turned to golf.

"Sport is a true testing ground for Loro Piana, a field laboratory in which to test, through the exclusive support and collaboration of famous champions, both Loro Piana's own products and new fabrics and fibres, designed to provide unprecedented performance in special atmospheric conditions and in challenging situations. It is relying on these principles, after equestrian competitions, sailing and classic cars, that the collaboration between Loro Piana and the golfing world has become a reality."

For the first time in fact the manufacturer has become the official outfitter of the European Ryder Cup players. The Ryder Cup, a team competition pitting every two years a European team against a US one, is golf's foremost event. It is held alternatively in Europe and the USA over the course of three days.

The 2016 edition is scheduled to start on 30th September at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska,  Minnesota, when Loro Piana will unveil the European team's outfits. "The collection is the result of a collaborative effort, based on the indications of European team captain Darren Clarke," explained Loro Piana in a press release.

The Italian manufacturer has also developed a dedicated capsule collection, which will be available at Loro Piana stores worldwide from mid-September. The collaboration will be renewed for the 2018 Ryder Cup, scheduled to be held at the 'Golf National' course at Paris-Guyancourt in France.
