Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu: the Paris Fashion Week finale
Oct 5, 2016
Nicolas Ghesquière headlined the final day of the Spring/Summer 2017 shows with a collection of bias-cut dresses featuring cut-out details, super slim trousers and a color palette that riffed on 80s trends, featuring golden yellows and electric blues. There were transparent blouses and exposed shoulder pads, but the limelight shone firmly on the boots, which were cut to mid-calf, often covered in metallic colors, and definitely made for walking.
Things took a turn for the patriotic at Moncler Gamme Rouge, where the tricolor pattern of the French flag was used to create sash belts and capes. From the pretty dress coats to the sporty combinations of trousers and t-shirts, a military theme underpinned the collection.
It was left to Miuccia Prada to close the season with a Miu Miu collection, which, as usual, drew from myriad eras and reference points in an eclectic sartorial masterstroke. There were tiny hot pants, sharp military shirts and even rubber swimming caps that came straight out of the 1950s, but the designer did tap into some very current trends, with crop tops and bra tops featuring heavily.
