With the arrival of John Galliano as the artistic director of Maison Martin Margiela, changes were anticipated within the style team. Notably, the departure of Matthieu Blazy was in question and now appears to be a sure thing, with rumours reported by WWD that he is heading to Céline.

Matthieu Blazy and Raf Simons

The talented Parisian designer was in charge of the Maison Martin Margiela couture line. He stepped out into the limelight in July, after being highlighted by fashion critic Suzy Menkès, International Vogue Editor.

With a diploma from La Cambre in Belgium, Matthieu Blazy took on one internship after another at Maisons Balenciaga and John Galliano, to then go on to work at Raf Simons from 2007 to 2011, before arriving at Maison Martin Margiela.

He is to join Céline's (LVMH) creative team, led by Phoebe Philo since 2008. And, Phoebe Philo is also rumoured to have called upon one of her former collaborators, Yvan Mispelaere, who was her assistant at Chloé. Yvan Mispelaere was the artistic director at Diane Von Furstenberg. He also worked for Roberto Cavalli, Valentino, Prada, Féraud and Gucci.

As for John Galliano, still according to WWD, he has made up his own team at Maison Martin Margiela, recruiting Vanessa Bellanger, his muse and assistant at Christian Dior, Alexandre Roux, his right hand at Dior and his own label, Jean-Yves Mustiere, formerly from Roberto Cavalli, and his former workshop manager, Rafaele Hardy.

John Galliano will present his first collection for the label during haute couture week in Paris in January.

Maison Martin Margiela and Céline did not wish to comment on these rumours.
