McArthurGlen's Designer Outlets named in China Best Overseas Shopping Centre
The owner, developer and manager of Designer Outlets (located in countries such as the UK, Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, Canada and Greece) has managed to attract an increasing number of Chinese tourists looking to buy from some of the world’s most important fashion, sportswear and homewares brands.
In the last five years, tourism grew by 400% in McArthurGlen shopping centres. The majority of international visitors come from China and in 2015 spending from Chinese tourists grew by 75% compared to the same period the prior year.
Anthony Rippingale, McArthurGlen's Head of Tourism, said: "We are thrilled to win this prestigious award in China for two consecutive years. The award is a testimony to the hard work of our staff in Europe, Canada and China, who work to ensure we offer the Chinese traveller to Europe an exciting and relevant shopping experience. At McArthurGlen we focus on ensuring we have the best-loved luxury and premium brands at great prices in high-quality shopping environments, near key city destinations. Our teams work closely with the Chinese travel industry to ensure that a trip to one of our centres is on every fashion-lover's itinerary before they leave home".
The group offers tax free shopping at its centres and engages with Chinese visitors through its office in Beijing and through social media, including Chinese platforms Weibo and WeChat.
