Monki opens first store in Paris
Swedish brand Monki that evokes Scandinavian simplicity has finally arrived in France. The brand has opened up shop right behind a popular H&M store near famous Parisian department stores Galeries Lafayette and Printemps.
Created by Cheap Monday and Weekday founders in 2006, Monki targets 17-25 year-olds with its blog-friendly offering. On the menu this season are logo tops, vintage prints, sheer fabrics and 90’s wash denim. Prices range from 25-35 euros for a knit and 35-45 euros for a pair of jeans. Accessoires start at 5 euros and reach 150 euros for leather goods.
Amongst those present at the store opening were key players in the French blogosphere and the Paris clubbing scene, very much in line with its web-friendly concept.
The brand will also publish a magazine – much like Cos with its Fantastic Man publication – created by the publishing house behind Indie Magazine and Material Girl. As for clothing, the store caters for women and all items are also available to purchase on the brand’s website. The store itself has a retro night-club vibe, along with a pop-disco soundtrack, specially selected by Mai who has been hired by the brand to look after music in the stores.
Monki can be bought from the e-store in 18 countries and well as in 60 stores in Europe. In two weeks, the group will inaugurate its first Monki store in Berlin, where it already has two Weekday stores. Later on in 2013, the brand is planning to embark on Osaka in Japan. A new and improved version of the Monki site will be launched on 9 April, inspired by the new Paris store.
