QVC debuts virtual makeup try ons with Laura Geller
On August 22, QVC will offer a special collection of Laura Geller products that will be on sale for the entire day. Viewers can use the YouCam app on their mobile devices to instantly try on colors and different products first so they feel more confident in their purchases before buying.
According to Ellen Lennon, Director of Beauty Merchandising for QVC, this is the "very first time" QVC has experimented with using a virtual try on experience. QVC believes using AR will transform the broadcast and mobile sales landscape particularly with makeup since the experience will be mess free and can be adapted to all skin tones.
Perfect Corp. is the parent company of YouCam Makeup. Their CEO Alice Chang said they formatted the QVC experience in response to the issue of return rates in home shopping. The "virtual trial experience [was created] to ensure shoppers could feel confident in their purchase decisions.”
Laura Geller partnered with YouCam Makeup so that the newest product collection will be instantly available to purchase through the app. Amanda Kahn, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations for Laura Geller New York said, "We are certain that this collaboration will result in reaching new consumers and are excited about the opportunities."
The QVC AR experience will start at midnight on August 22nd. Customers can download the YouCam app directly from QVC's website or they can also text QVC to have a link to trial the app sent to their phones.
