The American fashion industry veteran left LVMH's American ready-to-wear label after three years at the helm, handing the position over to Eric Marechalle who arrived at Marc Jacobs in September. Before that, Suhl had served as the CEO of Givenchy, another LVMH brand, from 2012 to 2014. A spokesperson for the Italian luxury brand confirmed his arrival at Valentino, first announced in the American press.

For Sebastian Suhl, this is a return to Italy, as he already worked at Prada for 11 years, joining the Milanese group in 2001, having cut his teeth in the fashion industry at Thimister. At Prada he was General Manager of France, then CEO in the Asia-Pacific region, before finally becoming Chief Operating Officer in 2009.

At Valentino, currently owned by the Qatari group Mayhoola, Suhl will report directly to CEO Stefano Sassi, and will be tasked with watching over the global expansion of the Rome-based brand as well as an increasingly probable IPO.
