SDI USA, part of Sports Direct International, announced on Wednesday the acquisition of Bob’s Stores and Eastern Mountain Sports from Eastern Outfitters.

The company was previously analyzing the performances and profitability of Eastern Outfitters stores in order to decide which of its 86 stores it should acquire. Sports Direct has paid close attention to Eastern Outfitters since before the Connecticut-based company filed for bankruptcy.

SDI will initially operate 50 brick and mortar stores in the Northeastern US, 5 Eastern Mountain Sports outdoor adventure schools, plus ems.com and bobstores.com. In addition, product lines will be expanded in the US stores and websites, including the US debut of an extensive portfolio of European brands.

"We are excited to expand our presence in the United States via the acquisition of Bob's Stores and Eastern Mountain Sports,” said a representative of SDI. “Adding these reputable and established retailers to Sports Direct's portfolio of holdings in the US will afford us a strong platform with which to rapidly expand our store and web presence, in this critically important market."

UK’s largest sporting goods retailer Sports Direct operates almost 800 stores in the UK, Europe and Asia and lifestyle and outdoor divisions, and owns a portfolio of over 30 brands, including Everlast, No Fear, and Kangol.
