Tod’s has big plans for 2013
Following the publication of figures for its financial year 2012, Tod’s has unveiled ambitious projects for the coming year. The company, run by Diego Della Valle, reported net profit of 145.5 million euros and turnover of 963.1 million euros in 2012 and has just announced that it has between 50 and 60 million worth of investments on the cards for 2013.
A further 15 million euros will go into constructing a new factory near to the company’s production site and head office in Sant’Elpidio a Mare in Italy. Tod’s purchased a lot of land near to its headquarters in August 2012. The group - which owns Tod’s, Hogan and Roger Vivier – currently has two factories in Comunanza, 50 kilometres from the company’s head office, another in Tolentino and well as two factories near to Florence.
“We are hoping to open up to 20 stores in 2013, the majority of which will be in Asia. When I say Asia, I mean China. 80% of our store openings will be in China,” said Emilio Macellari, chief financial officer at Tod’s, during a conference call to financial analysts. Three new stores are planned for elsewhere: one in Europe, one in Japan and two in Brazil.
The company’s Brazil openings are likely to be in Sao Paulo, where Tod’s has just opened its first Latin American store. The 145m² location is situated in the JK Iguatemi shopping centre that recently opened in Olmypia, the city’s financial area and known for its shopping. The store carries both men’s and womenswear as well as several items specially designed for the Brazilian market.
Another big task ahead for the company is the launch of its online store. Emilio Macellari explains, “2013 is the year test-runs. Our e-commerce will become a lot more prominent in the second half of 2014. We predict that the site could become one of our main points of sale, perhaps not as significant as our first or second, but at least a top five point of sale for the company.” Though still in its testing-phase, the group’s online store “has generated positive results for all of the company’s brands,” particularly for footwear.
The company’s highest sales for this year came from Italy, France, the United Kingdom and Germany. Currently, the Tod’s online store is only operational in certain European countries. From April and May, the e-shop will be extended to the United States and by the end of the year it is expected to go live in China.
